One World Against Thousands

"Interstellar Wars" covers 200 years of war; peace, and overwhelming change as the ancient Vilani Imperium falls to the upstart Terrans.

So begins the introduction on the back  of the book.  As always, Steve Jackson likes to keep his GURPS Traveller line of books in an 'alternate' Traveller Universe than the original setting by Traveller designer Marc Miller.  In this case, GURPS Traveller: Interstellar Wars takes us to very beginning of the Imperium, and Terra's first contact with the other homo-sapiens that already inhabit the galaxy.  Needless to say, the contact is far from peaceful, but the Vilani Imperium is corrupt and ready to fall...

Stars Without Number Synopsis
It is a time of reconnecting mankind across the stars.  Mankind had once created a vast empire, at first using only the Spike Drive to leap from one star to another.  Soon it was discovered that one side effect of such travel was "Metadimensional Extroversion Syndrome", MES, which gave those who had it great psychic powers if developed correctly.  Shortly thereafter, technology adapted to embrace such powers leading to psitech and the jump gate networks that connected worlds instantly instead of the weeks a Spike jump could take.  Man became dependent on this psitech, and it would almost prove his un-doing...  A great psychic anomaly originating in the Veil Nebul...
