Zeroł Expectations

ZERO ZERO ZERO - (Zeroł)

A Galactic Republic Guild

Role-play | PvP & PvE Achievement Oriented | Casual Friendly

Casual in playtime not in play style :: Casual Atmosphere ... Serious Attitude!

Last Update:  30 December 2011

INTRODUCTION

Welcome, Guest, to the Zeroł rules and expectations page.  We know that reading about guild rules is never fun, no matter what guild one joins, but it is a necessary evil.  We sincerely hope that you don’t find these rules and expectations burdensome or counterproductive to your play style, but rather tailored enough to give Zeroł its continuity and atmosphere, while flexible enough for you to enjoy the game and experience it in the manner you desire.

We feel that joining a guild is not about cool names or server status/prestige, but rather it’s about like-minded people joining together to accomplish similar goals.  Our rules and expectations focus on that ideal.  Whether you are brand new to Zeroł, the friend of a current member, or a current member yourself, please understand that Zeroł will not give up its “soul” to accommodate people who believe they are bigger, better, or more important than the guild itself.

By reading these rules and expectations you know what is expected of you - and what is expected of the guild.  While certain rules and expectations may morph or change, the core of what Zeroł is - the ideals and expectations that make Zeroł the guild that it is - will not change.

Our forums are open to you for discussion.  If you ever have any questions, ideas, or concerns never hesitate to bring them up.  We’re all here to help and support each other.

** Always remember that in Zeroł the spirit of the law trumps the letter of the law. **

So, don't try some legalese loophole B.S. to talk your way out of (or into) something when the intent is clear.

** Ultimately, the Guild Leader has the final say in all matters. **

BASIC FACTS

Zeroł is a guild serving the Galactic Republic on the Jung Ma RP/PvP server.
  • In order to take part in the fullest extent of the Galactic Conflict, Zeroł will play on a Role-Playing / Player versus Player (RP/PvP) server.
  • Zeroł will actively take part in both Player-vs-Environment (PvE) and Player-vs-Player (PvP) combat - as determined by game content.
We desire folks who seek to be part of a team by joining in guild groups, operations, and events.

We desire folks who seek to be part of the greater Legion of Myth community by posting on the forums, entering contests, and joining your fellow guild mates in other activities - as time and life permit.

It is important that you read the Zeroł background story in order to understand the concept and feel of Zeroł.

ZEROł CORE VALUES

Activity

An active guild is a healthy guild.  Although we do not have defined activity requirements, members are to be active both in-game and on the website.

Attitude

Maintaining a positive attitude that shows respect for yourself, the others around you, and the guild as a whole.

Support

Provide support for the guild and its membership by grouping with guild mates, joining in guild events, answering questions, and assisting those in need. The ability to provide support comes from the successful application of Activity and Attitude.

Loyalty

First and foremost, maintain loyalty to your fellow guild members!  Loyalty to Zeroł (policies, hierarchy, and practices) is accomplished through loyalty to your fellow guild members; and loyalty to Legion of Myth is accomplished through loyalty to Zeroł.

Integrity

Doing the right thing, in relation to the rules, standards, and spirit of the Zeroł guild - every time, all the time.  This can be a tough one to define, but if it feels wrong or questionable it probably is.

VISION & GOALS

To be a mature, well respected, and well liked guild within the Star Wars: The Old Republic community.
  • As much as practical, we will be active in the official community.
  • We do not spam, flame, ridicule, or in other ways act obnoxious to the community and its members.
To be successful in PvP as well as PvE.

Whether we are in questing groups, in raids against high end content, or in player-vs-player combat we will always do our utmost to be successful.
  • We learn from defeats and repeat victories. We will be flexible enough to adapt and overcome - to change tactics, skills, and equipment as needed (and available) for any encounter.
  • We will provide and accept constructive criticisms and improvement suggestions without ego, malice, or condescension.
  • We will all try to help each other learn, improve, and support the guild to the best of our abilities.

WHO WE ARE

We are a role-playing guild

Role-playing is never an excuse to kill steal, corpse camp, or perform other acts of general game play rudeness.

First and foremost, we respect the producer and developer provided canon and lore.
  • We are player-characters taking part in the Star Wars: The Old Republic universe; we are not creating a new universe of our own or incorporating other non-canonical universes into this one.
  • We are not Advanced Dungeons and Dragons' Drow Elves, Battlestar Galactica's Colonial Warriors, Battletech's MechWarriors, or any other such nonsense.
    • Zeroł feels that such non-canon actions are in effect 'griefing' role-players.
    • Whether the player (or guild) is 'role-playing' such idiocy, or the offender is a non-role-player attempting to ruin the fun and immersion of role-players, Zeroł will go out of its way to PvP, PK, and otherwise hinder the progress of those with non-RP names and those whose guilds in no way adhere to any semblance of canon. (i.e. Drow, MechWarriors, etc.)
  • We are player-characters who fit into the mold and design of the game as provided through the coding, mechanics, and lore given to us by the game designers.
Where there is no official Star Wars (or SW:TOR) canon or lore to limit someone, we welcome the infinite imaginations of all of our members.

Legion of Myth (the parent organization of Zeroł) also has it's own official lore for those who wish to incorporate that into their backgrounds.

Jung Ma is a role-play server and Zeroł is a role-play guild, therefore we have role-play expectations in our naming policies.

We realize that there are only so many letters in the English language, and only so many ways they can be strung together.  We don't take issue with "dumb names," as that is subjective.  Whether we like your name or not is irrelevant.  What is relevant is: "Does the name adhere to our naming policies?"

When you choose a character name or otherwise create a label that can be seen by other players in game you must abide by the following guidelines, as well as the rules of common decency. If Legion of Myth and/or Zeroł finds such a name or label to be offensive or improper, it may, in its sole and absolute discretion, suspend or terminate your membership in Zeroł. In particular, you may not use any name:
  • Belonging to another person, Legion of Myth username, or developed character within Legion of Myth or Zeroł with the intent to impersonate that person or to prevent that person from (or beat that person to) using the name in-game;
  • That incorporates vulgar language or which are otherwise offensive, defamatory, obscene, hateful, or racially, ethnically or otherwise objectionable in the eyes of Legion of Myth and/or Zeroł;
  • Subject to the rights of any other person or entity without written authorization from that person or entity;
  • That belongs to a popular culture figure, celebrity, or media personality;
  • That belongs to a popular work of fiction (e.g. "Gandalf", "Spock", "Neo");
  • That is, contains, or is substantially similar to a trademark or service mark, whether registered or not;
  • Belonging to any religious figure or deity;
  • Taken from Star Wars canon (e.g. "Vader", "Skywalker", "Jar-jar");
  • Related to drugs, sex, alcohol, or criminal activity;
  • Comprised of partial or complete sentence (e.g., "Getpwned", "Luvtodance", etc);
  • Comprised of gibberish (e.g., "Qwerty", "Asdfasdf", "Xyzpdq");
  • Referring to pop culture icons or personas (e.g. "McLovin", "Kyle Broflovski", "Catwoman");
  • That utilizes "Leet" or "Dudespeak" (e.g., "Roflmao", "Roxxurboxx", "Lolzumad"); or
  • That incorporates titles. For purposes of this subsection, "titles" shall include without limitation 'rank' titles (e.g., "General Chow," or “Captain Kangaroo”), monarchist or fantasy titles (e.g., "KingLoko", "LordPauleyC"), and religious titles (e.g., "ThePope," or "Reverend Run").
Any attempt to get around the above rules through misspelling, tongue-in-cheek references, or by the use of a combination of rules which individually would not constitute an infraction is a violation and may result in your removal from Zeroł.
  • An example would be to name your character Kirk, and play as a Smugger or a Trooper and wear the Captain title - "Captain Kirk".
  • Another example would be to name your character Ga-ga, then attain the Lady title - "Lady Ga-ga".
Nicknames used as your character name (e.g. "Doc", "Clamps", "Pistol") may be used if:
  • You have a well written background story for the character in the proper forum.
    • Well written is not 3-5 sentences explaining it.  It's a good story that details how the nickname was earned.
  • The Zeroł leadership approves it.

If you have to ask yourself if the name is acceptable, it probably isn't.
Then, if you determine that your name won't fit within our rules, ask yourself why you're on a role-play server.
Understand that naming rules apply to alts as well as main characters.

When in game we try to role-play our characters wherever practical, and in all public channels.
  • To clarify:  When you are typing in a publicly viewable chat channel, you are to be in character (IC) and to refrain from Internet and instant messenger shorthand.
  • When using public in-game chat channels, such as /shout, /say, etc, remain in-character to the best of your ability.
    • Unless the RP community determines otherwise, the /1 (General) or out-of-character (OOC) channel is an obvious exception to the previous rule.

  • When using any public in-game chat channel, refrain from instant messenger shorthand (e.g. ur, m8, c u l8r, etc).  Additionally, we do not type, "JCS LFG PST" or "Hoth grp lfm pst," ever, in ANY public channel.
  • If you want to type out of character (OOC), use the OOC channel.

When considering combat (PvE or PvP), especially in operations and warbands, role-playing does not trump achieving; achieving trumps role-playing.
  • Example:  "This armor is ugly, and my character does not wear purple."  If you want to wear the cool looking outfit when not on a guild raid, that is perfectly fine. During a raid we expect you to be outfitted with the best gear and skills you can - no matter how ‘ugly' or ‘purple.'
  • We will not tell you how to play your character as long as your character is effective.  If you don't like the idea of using blasters, as long as that shtick does not prevent us from being successful in completing a raid (or being successful in PvP) we're okay with that.  We're not asking role-players to min/max to the detriment of the character, but we are expecting everyone to be effective in both PvE and PvP.
For the most part, there is little to no role-playing in Mumble, in private guild chat, or whispers/tells.

We are a casual guild

Real life comes first.
  • We are real life professionals, students, and family members who are unable to put the time into a game that would constitute us as a hard-core guild.  However, when we play we do so to the best of our ability.  We are casual in play time not in play style.
We ask people to play as much as they can, but we don't have activity expectations.
  • Exception 1:  If you sign up for an event (if applicable), you are expected to be there.
  • Exception 2:  We do expect people to stay current with the website, as well as READ AND POST on the message board forums.

We are an achievement guild

When we do play, we do everything in our power to be the best players that we can be.

We make every effort to succeed and achieve within our casual playtime, the EULA/TOS, and spirit of the game.

We do use Mumble (VoIP / voice chat) and expect our members to use it for all guild events (PvE and PvP).

GUILD EVENTS & RAIDS

Guild Event

A Guild Event is any scheduled event (or, on occasion, an ad hoc event called by the leadership).  This could be a role-playing event, a recruiting event, an exploring event, a guild meeting, etc.
  • If you are logged into the game during the scheduled guild event time, there is room for you, and you are of the appropriate level you are expected to be in the event.

Raid

A Raid is a guild event that requires a full team of guild members to conquer an area, defeat player-characters, or defeat creatures.  This includes scheduled and ad hoc Battlegrounds, Flashpoints, Heroics, Open World PvP events, Operations, and Warzones.

Be available for the duration of the raid.
  • Example:  If raid time last from 6pm until 10pm on Friday nights, be available from 6pm to 10pm on Friday nights.
This is a team effort in which your services are needed. Please consider your fellow guild mates, and be courteous to them by giving them your time and concentration during raid time.
  • This is not the time to play alts, complete quests, and so forth. Since raid time will be decided by consensus prior to any event scheduling, we do expect that real life schedules will be reorganized (within legitimate reason) to ensure availability for the raid.
  • Extended dinners, walking the dog, and/or playing with the kids either has to be put on hold, conducted by another person, or you will have to miss the raid.
  • We ask that (with the exception of an emergency out of your control) you take breaks only at the appropriate times.
Be on time.
  • A raid time of 6pm does not mean start running there at 6pm. It does not mean go gather raid gear from the bank at 5:59pm or go fishing for salmon at 6pm. It means have all of that done, and be ready to go BEFORE 6pm. First pull is at 6pm.
  • Just like the day of the raid, the time of the raid is determined by consensus - it's the best time for the most people. If work gets in the way and you can never make that time, we'll do our best to make adjustments as needed. However, being late because of the lack of planning or preparation is not acceptable.
    • EXAMPLE:  Due to many members having children and the numerous players we had from Alaska, the Warhammer guild changed its raid start time from 6pm Saturday to 8:30pm Saturday.

BASIC LOOT RULES

At the onset of the game, raid loot will be passed out by the guild leadership either by the Loot Council System or by calling for a Random Roll.

The Ladder System (aka: Suicide Kings) will most likely be implemented as we become more raid worthy.
  • Even when using the Ladder System, Guild Officers will always have the right to determine (and the final say in) how loot is distributed for the overall betterment of the Zeroł guild.  We don't expect an override of this nature to happen often (if ever), but we keep the option for the betterment of Zeroł.
  • We have no plans or desire to implement DKP.

Need before Greed - as defined by Zeroł

Generally speaking, Zeroł plays by the Need Before Greed philosophy. Although there are instances where an exception may come into play, here are the basic guild looting rules based on the standard [ NEED | GREED | PASS ] rolling options.

Need
  • If it upgrades what you are currently using
    ... OR ...
  • It is a needed requirement for a known specific purpose
    (i.e. Raid Resist Gear that’s not technically an upgrade)
    -
    ... AND ...
  • You will actually equip it for use on the character you
    are using at the time the item dropped
    -
    ... AND ...
  • There was no prior notice that if the item drops it goes
    to a specific player character
    -
    ... THEN ...
    You may roll NEED.

Greed / Pass
  • If the item isn’t a needed upgrade for character
    you are using at the time the item drops
    -
    ... AND / OR ...
  • You will not equip the item on the character you are
    using at the time the item drops
    -
    ... AND / OR ...
  • The item is for a companion character
    ... AND / OR ...
  • The item will be sold (vendor, trade, or auction)
    ... THEN ...
    You may NOT roll NEED.
    You are to roll GREED or PASS.

Note the following additional loot rules/information, based on the loot and modding system used in SWTOR.

Someone rolling on an item "as-is," which means that person can and will wear it right then and there, as-is will have need preference over someone who simply wants one or two mods from the item, and/or wants the item for the look.

Here is the priority system, the person with the highest priority may roll NEED, while all others must roll GREED (or PASS).
  • Priority 1:  Any player that can (and will) use the item as-is when the item is looted.  (Remember to consider the Need before Greed information above.)
  • Priority 2:  Any player that can and will use the item when the item is looted, but only wants less than 100% of the mods in the item.  (Remember to consider the Need before Greed information above.)
  • Priority 3:  Any player who cannot use the item based on being too low of a level; however, the item is for his/her advanced class and will be an upgrade.  (Remember to consider the Need before Greed information above.)
  • Priority 4:  Any player who can and will use the item when the item drops, but only wants the item for looks.  (Remember to consider the Need before Greed information above.)
  • Priority 5:  Anyone else - based on the Need before Greed rules mentioned above.

Unless previously identified and agreed to by the raid leadership, you may not roll NEED to give friends, family, or anyone else a greater chance to win the item. In other words, you may not win the item for another person. If YOU aren't going to use it on the character that you are playing at the time of the drop, you may not NEED roll for the item.

Unless previously identified and agreed to by the raid leadership, you may not NEED roll on any item intended for trade, the in-game auction, or any out of game auction (i.e. E-Bay).

MEMBERSHIP REQUIREMENTS & EXPECTATIONS

Universal Requirement

Agreeing to these rules, standards, and expectations of Zeroł is a requirement for membership in Zeroł.

By joining Zeroł, you acknowledge that you have read, understand, and agree to all rules, standards, and expectations.

Role-playing and immersion into the Star Wars: The Old Republic game and universe

Names that are obviously not in the spirit of the Star Wars/SciFi genre will not be accepted into Zeroł. Examples: ObeeOuan, Pewpewz, Skywalkerx, and Schwarts.

Outside of specified Guild Events pure/hardcore role-playing is an option; however, even if you're not an active role-player, please support your fellow role-players and remember to refrain from instant messenger shorthand in all public channels.

We understand that role-playing isn't for everyone. We also understand that there will be little to no role-playing on Mumble; it'll mostly take place via in-game chat channels and on the forums. Unless it's billed as a Guild Event, you are not required to get involved in role-playing sessions; however, you are also not allowed to mock or disparage those who do role-play, or otherwise avoid role-playing when it's expected by guild events or expectations.

Role-players need to understand that PvP and tactics come before role-playing.

In-game communication

Respect the community - even your enemies and the various jerks in the game.

Do not flame anyone, ever.  This includes in game, on message board forums, and anywhere else where you represent Zeroł. Its better to let someone think you are a fool then for you to open your mouth and remove all doubt.

We do not use the shout channel to advertise recruitment, crafting, buying, or selling requests.

We refrain from instant messenger speak. With Mumble, you can talk to keep communication times short. There's no need to butcher the English language any more than necessary. Examples: ur, cu l8r, kewl, rgr, m8

Mumble - Voice over IP chat

All Zeroł members are to download, install, and use Mumble.  (Mumble is similar to the more commonly known applications of Ventrilo or TeamSpeak.)

It should go without saying, but a working microphone is required.

Ensure you read the Mumble Setup Instructions for proper setup configurations and expected etiquette.

Although we do not typically censor people in Mumble, the primary use of Mumble is for PvP and PvE coordination. Take the political discussions and other non-grouping related cross talk to another channel.

Try to keep the cussing and ranting to a minimum.

Applicants & Initiates

Initiates who are invited into the Zeroł guild (and wear the guild tag) in-game prior to completing the 4-step process will have a maximum of one week (7 days) to complete the 4-step process or they will be removed from the in-game guild.
